Hypnosis is a very pleasant and natural state that involves relaxation of the body and mind, with resultant heightening of mental ability to focus and set desired directions in life. Hypnosis allows us to access a very creative, powerful and wise part of the mind that stands ready and willing to help us achieve beneficial life goals and make changes that promote greater well-being.

Think of it this way: Your conscious mind is responsible for deciding what you want to achieve and where you want to go, while your unconscious mind has the ability to set up automatic behaviors and response patterns to implement your chosen directions easily and automatically.

You already benefit from this cooperative effort between your conscious and unconscious minds in many ways. For example, many years ago your conscious mind learned to recognize letters and string them together into words and sentences; but now you see a page of print and it conveys meaning to you automatically. You don’t usually even consciously notice the individual letters and words, as they are being recognized and decoded automatically by your unconscious mind at a very rapid speed. With hypnosis, you ask your unconscious mind to expand the range of what it can do for you with this ease and speed.

Hypnosis also allows you to correct erroneous or outdated aspects of your automatic responses. Going back to our reading example, if you learn an incorrect spelling for a word, that error will become a part of your automatic reading program until you correct it. Just so, few of us reach adulthood without accumulating some “errors” or outdated information in our unconscious patterns of response. Hypnotic work is designed to replace these with new automatic responses that get you the results you want in life.

Access Your Potential with Hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

How does hypnosis work?

Can everyone be hynotized?

The hypnotic state is a universal, daily experience. You pass through trance briefly as you wake up in the morning and again as you fall asleep at night. You experience it when you are totally engrossed in a book, movie or TV program. You experience it often as you stare at your computer screen. These spontaneous, daily-life trances are an excellent springboard to the more sustained and purposeful trance you will experience when your intention is to access the potential waiting for you in the deeper mind. While depth of trance does vary according to both individual differences and the amount of practice one has with hypnosis, the only people who truly cannot be hypnotized at all are those whose mental capacities are severely compromised to the point where they cannot follow simple instructions.

Is hypnosis safe?

Ultimately, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis; that is, no one can make anyone else go into trance. What I can do is guide you to direct your thoughts and awarenesses in such a way that the hypnotic state comes smoothly and easily.  Each person’s experience of hypnosis is individual, but there are some general statements that apply to all:

  • You will feel pleasantly relaxed in your body and your mind.

  • You will enter and leave the hypnotic state whenever you choose to.

  • You will maintain total freedom of choice, even in the deepest of hypnotic states.

  • You will experience, do, and say only what you choose to experience, do or say.

  • You may not lose all awareness.

  • You will not be “put” into hypnosis against your will, nor will you stay there one moment longer than you want to.

  • You will not be subject to the will of the hypnotist or anyone else.

  • You will not reveal or do anything you do not choose to reveal or do.

What can I accomplish with hypnosis?

In virtually any life area where you could benefit from using the innate abilities of your deeper mind, hypnosis can be of great help. In one type of hypnosis session, you can absorb hypnotic suggestions that will activate the deeper mind’s tremendous power to do things like:

  • Transform poor self-images that interfere with confidence and success.

  • Overcome procrastination.

  • Learn how to stay more calm and peaceful through life’s challenges.

  • Unleash greater creativity and problem-solving ability.

  • Change unwanted habits like smoking or eating the wrong things.

  • Improve performance in a sport or artistic endeavor.

  • Control pain, whether chronic or for specific experiences like childbirth, dental procedures, or post-surgical recovery.

In another type of hypnosis, you will learn to open up pathways to deeper awareness that can help you:

  • Connect to your Higher Self or access your inner wisdom (yes, you do have inner wisdom!)

  • Explore deeper aspects of yourself.

  • Cultivate your intuitions.

  • Recover memories or resolve memories that trouble you.

  • Break free of outdated beliefs and limiting emotional patterns.

  • Reach more spiritually attuned states.

Throughout the course of nearly forty years of practice as a Clinical Psychologist, I have worked in collaboration with numerous health care providers from a wide variety of professional disciplines. By far, Lynn Sparrow Christy has been the most valuable resource in contributing to favorable treatment outcomes with my patients. Through her outstanding mastering of hypnosis, Lynn has been able to unblock deeply ingrained unconscious conflicts and to bring about their resolution with each one of the dozens of patients I have referred to her over the last ten years since I first met her. I completely trust her and recommend her with no reservations whatsoever.

What People Are Saying

Lynn has been doing hypnotic work with individuals and groups since the early 1980s. She is trained in traditional, directive hypnosis (the kind that involves giving direct hypnotic suggestion), Ericksonian indirect hypnosis, and non-directive methods that lead the client into inner discovery (the second category above). She has been certified not only as a hypnotherapist but as a trainer of hypnosis. While no longer actively training in the hypnosis field, Lynn takes great satisfaction in seeing numerous former students continuing to change lives in their own successful client work. This leveraging of our own growth and experience by passing it on to others who in turn find their unique ways to share it with others - whether professionally or just in the quality of their daily interactions with others - is a core aspect of the ideals that are central to every session with every client.
